Effective 29 September 2026 · Version 1.0
The short version: ParentLog has no server, no account and no analytics. Everything it stores lives in your own Chrome profile, and it makes no network requests. Nothing you capture ever leaves your browser.
ParentLog is a Chrome extension for teachers. It copies the details of a parent email you have already sent or received into your school's PowerSchool log-entry form, and keeps a personal list (a "ledger") of those contacts.
Nothing. We, the developers, receive no data from the extension. There is no telemetry, no crash reporting and no usage tracking.
When you click Log this contact on an email, ParentLog reads that one email and stores the following in Chrome's extension storage on your computer:
This data stays in your browser profile. ParentLog uses chrome.storage.local, so Chrome does not sync it to your Google account or to other devices.
Open the ParentLog panel, go to Settings and choose Delete all entries, or remove the extension from Chrome. Either action deletes everything ParentLog stored.
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
storage | Keep your ledger and settings on your device. |
sidePanel | Show the ledger beside your tabs. |
activeTab, scripting | Read the open email when you click Capture open email, and run on the PowerSchool site you allowed. |
| mail.google.com, outlook.office.com, outlook.office365.com, outlook.live.com | Show the Log this contact button on emails. |
| Optional: any site | So you can allow your own district's PowerSchool address. Only the one address you enter is ever used. |
ParentLog is used by teachers, not by students. Student names may appear in text the teacher captures; that text is stored only on the teacher's device under the school's own data-handling rules, and is never transmitted to us or to any third party.
If the extension ever adds a feature that sends data anywhere, this policy will be updated first and the change will be described in the extension's release notes.
